He also served as a nominated member of Rajya Sabha, the upper chamber of the Parliament of India from 1986 to 1992.

Srinivas was one of the most globally beloved South Indian musicians and is regarded as the Mozart of classical Indian music. He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009.
