A slide instrumentalist, vocalist from age 5, composer, guru, author & orator, he is also the creator of the concept Mel harmony in world music. He is the son and disciple of revolutionary “prodigy-maker” Chitravina Narasimhan.

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1998 by Government of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2009.
