Each year on 11 November, National Education Day or Rashtriya Shiksha Diwas is commemorated in the memory of the late Maulana Abul Kalam `Azad’, the first education minister of independent India.

The Indian School organised many socio-cultural activities on the virtual platform, on the occasion. The activities planned sought to lay emphasis on the life of Maulana Abul Kalam `Azad’, and also the importance of education in our lives, a subject he worked tirelessly for.

Several video clippings and power point presentations were shared with the students during their online classes. The motive was to highlight the virtues of education and its impact on the development of the nation as a whole.

The life and achievements of Maulana Azad were showcased, which included his contribution to the building of Jamia Millia Islamia, the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Sahitya Akademi and Lalit Kala Akademi amongst other invaluable institutions. Maulana Azad propounded the education of women and also compulsory primary education for all children until the age of 14. The Maulana was conferred the Bharat Ratna for his life long work.

A video representation on the life of Fredrick Douglas was also shown to the students to illustrate how education empowered a man such as him, to work to abolish slavery and procure voting rights for the Afro-American people under Abraham Lincoln.

Essays, online seminars, slogan writing and poster presentation were some of the activities conducted, on the importance of the nation’s commitment towards building a `Sakshar Bharat’.
