Events held at our School during July-Sept

Padma Vibhushan Smt Sonal Mansingh graced the occasion as chief guest. The competition was an exquisite potpourri of the arts including fusion music and dance presentations and recreating the art of patachitra and Bengali film posters of yore.

Environment Week(8-12 July)

The customary annual week-long event aimed at sensitising students on the value of conserving resources and the need to adopt sustainable practices as everyday routine. Manifold activities kept the students active and involved-special assemblies, nature walks, workshops, Ted talks, nukkad nataks, songs and self-composed poems, panel discussions, library activities, art initiatives and Citizenship classes. A collection drive resulted in a veritable heap of stationery and recyclable items which were used to teach basic vocational skills to the challenged children at Palna

Investiture Ceremony 2019

The senior and junior student councils were ceremoniously vested with their new responsibilities. They received their positions in humility, from the outgoing council members who handed them over to their successors in customary grace.

Citizenship Programme activities

As our children become pioneers of change, they add new value to building character as future citizens.

In collaboration with Women for India (WFI),  students of The Indian School staged a Nukkad Natak on water conservation outside the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station. The students’ performance depicted the common ways in which we waste water and how we should take precautions to conserve this precious resource. The students received huge applause from onlookers in the crowded public spot, after each performance.

An interactive talk was organised on cyber crime by noted lawyer, Sumit Nagpal. The talk was extremely educative. Students learned how the internet is indeed a magical resource bank but which needs to be used judiciously and with great caution.

A motivational talk by Ms Smriti Singh, assistant professor at Delhi University, who was blinded by malnutrition at an early age, was a lesson in positivity and persistence. She spoke to the students about her struggle for survival and how she handled competition when she got a scholarship to study at the prestigious Lady Shriram College. She described her difficult journey often fraught by a lack of books in Braille. She urged the children to spend time with their grandparents and even volunteer to take care of a special child in the family or neighbourhood. She stressed on how these little acts of empathy will go a long way in making the community a better place to live in.

In August, 2019, 8 students visited an MCD school in Andrewsganj  to present a Nukkad Natak on the importance of cleanliness and recycling.

Skype classrooms

Students across the classes engaged with peers and educators on Skype, in countries as diverse as Russia, Zambia, Egypt, Israel, Vietnam and South Korea. Active exchanges resulted in an exposure to unfamiliar cultures and new confidence amongst our children, as they interacted and shared details of their own culture and way of life. The junior classes got a chance to also enjoy animated story telling on Skype, of famous tales from these far off lands.

Educative Interactions of students with School Chairman

Post the exams we shall begin practices for Annual Day, a much anticipated event on our School calendar. Whilst participation is voluntary we hope most students will opt to participate. As I have mentioned in the past, the annual day is an exercise of learning manifold things- besides drama, dance and music, it teach qualities of team work and organisational skills as the children observe their teachers script, audition, compose, design and finally mobilise and mount a production.

In any case, I do wish to reiterate that parents, you must persuade your child to take the benefit of the numerous co-curricular activities offered at our School. It greatly helps to discover the talents of the child which in turn helps build a holistic and well rounded personality. As you know, at our School the buzzword is  ‘edutainment’, ie., education with entertainment.

With my best wishes for a spontaneous collaboration at all times,

Tania Joshi,
