VISIT TO THE FIRE STATION, 14 and 23 July, 2010, by Pre Primary and Pre School Learn Safety First and then Be Safe Always
Visits and excursions to selected venues are an on-going thing in the Indian School. These visits not only sensitize the children in their social surroundings but also assist in their overall development. Such a trip to the Fire Station was organized for the Pre-primary on Wednesday 14th July 2010 and for our young Pre Schoolers, who went for their first outing of the session 2010 - 2011, on Friday 23rd July.
To increase the curiosity of the children, prior knowledge of the fire station was given to them. We had a fire-drill exercise wherein the standard evacuation procedure was reinforced in our school premises on 7th July. The children were also provided with the worksheets related to the topic and taught a rhyme and song in the western music class called “Hurry fire fighters”. To help the children to grasp and associate with the topic, “Services” with the actual visit. This makes for proactive learning. The students reached the Fire station at 9:30 a.m. sharp and were cordially welcomed by the officials. The children were shown a fully dressed fireman and also all the important accessories like hose pipe, ladder, bell, light, oxygen tank, boots etc. All these, along with their functions were demonstrated. The children were very excited to see the different elements and loved to handle the hose-pipe themselves. In the end children offered a ‘Thank you’ card to the officer-in-charge, along with handcrafted gifts made by the class.
