HERITAGE WALK – LODHI GARDEN (By INTACH) : Class VI - IX :10th feb 2010
Fox History channel along with INTACH organized a national wide school engagement programme Titled – ‘My City My History’ in the month of Nov 2009. Students from class VI to IX were a part of this programme and they were to write an interesting and unique untold story about their city.
34 students from our school participated in this competition they wrote articles on various known and unknown, tangible and intangible legacies of our city Delhi.
As part of the concluding ceremony of this programme 8 students from classes VII – IX namely Mahima, Ojasvi (VII), Sidhanto, Sonal (VIII), Sandeep, Prateek, Akshi and Shubra (IX) received an opportunity to be part of the felicitation ceremony in which they not only received certificates on behalf of their fellow school mates but also enjoyed a Heritage walk in Lodhi Garden which was headed by INTACH.
Our Heritage walk co-ordinates Ms Swapna Liddle – co – convenor. INTACH, Delhi CHAPTER TOOK US FOR AN Interactive heritage walk in the lodhi garden. She covered various buildings like Bada Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad, Sikander Lodhi’s tomb and Mubaraq Shah’s Tomb.
She made the students aware about different architectural features like cobbled doorways, male & female tombs, carvings on lime stone plasters, Qalima. Ms Swapna also made the students aware as to how Mubaraq Shah’s Tomb was constructed by using pulses, grounded stones, jaggery. It was indeed a great learning experience.
Akshi and Shubra of class IX also shared their experience with the rest of their school mates in the Morning Assembly. In the assembly they not only made the students aware about this architectural splendour but also urged the students to protect and preserve our tangible heritage as the future citizens of the country.
