Discovery Learning is the school’s special learning project whereby the students learn to understand and discover themselves and their role in the world around through various creative endeavours like drawing, painting and writing. Though formally confined to the first week of the calendar, Discovery Learning runs like a leitmotif through the year, both in the classrooms and beyond. Symbolically, at the beginning of each year, students embark on a self-exploration, first through drawing and painting, specially for the little ones, and later through writing. In the beginning only a couple of sentences, then perhaps a poem or a paragraph or both, then an essay and finally, by the time students reach class X, self discovery becomes a chapter in an autobiography. Through this exercise students learn to evaluate themselves, more importantly, at their own pace and thus prepare for choices in life. We as parents to collect these exercises and put them in a special album so that at the end of 14 years of school, they have a wonderful and unique record of their child’s progress to preserve for posterity.
