Inter House Hindi Story Telling Competition : Class III : 19^th Feb 2010

We all Listen to stories sometimes from grandparents. Story telling is an art. If a story is narrated in an interesting manner with expressions and sound effects then we can picturise the entire story in front of our eyes. To motivate this talent in the children, on 19^th Feb 2010, Friday, The Indian School organized the Inter House Hindi Story telling Competition for class III in the Foundation Hall. The Indra House had organized this event.

The compering was done by Saumya Saxena and Isha Kanojia of Class IV B.

The honourable judges were Dr. Shikha Sharma and Mrs. Vidusha Arora.

Bhavya Mahajan and Reet Kohli bagged the 1^st and 2^nd position.

Indira House stood 1^st and Varun 2^nd.

Inter House English Declamation Competition : Classes III – IV : 15^th Feb 2010

Linda Anderson has rightly said – ‘ Oratory is quickly becoming a lost art. Certainly people talk too much, but true oratory is growing hard to find’

So, the primary section of ‘The Indian School’ Organised an Inter-House English Declamation Competition to give an opportunity to the students to develop their communication skills and their confidence. The topics for the Declamation contest were –

Common wealth Game – 2010 – a boon for the city and its dwellers.
Delhites are insensitive.
Girls are better achiever than boys.
Computers are more for fun than learning.

The participants spoke confidently, fluently and with conviction. According to our Principal their performance was ‘Stupendous’. The results of the competition were as follows –

Blessing Ceremony : Class X and XII : 16^th Feb 2010

Blessing Ceremony for class X and XII was held in the school auditorium at 9:00 am and 12:00 noon respectively on 16^th Feb 2010. The ceremony began with the traditional welcome of the students by a ‘Tika’ by the respective class teacher, amidst the sound of Sanskrit shlokas. Then Mr. Rajeev Massey read out few quotes from the holy Bible followed by a prayer song by him. Farzana Zafar Khan and Ms. Parvinder Kaur read out brief quotes from the holy Quran and Guru Granth sahib respectively. Principal ma’am gave a motivational talk to the students and gave them general instruction on the code and conduct of the students during Examination. Director Sir Mr. L. Raisinghani also blessed the students and wished them luck for the board exam and the life ahead. A solemn ceremony ended by a devotional song by all the teachers.

HERITAGE WALK – LODHI GARDEN (By INTACH) : Class VI - IX :10^th feb 2010

Fox History channel along with INTACH organized a national wide school engagement programme Titled – ‘My City My History’ in the month of Nov 2009. Students from class VI to IX were a part of this programme and they were to write an interesting and unique untold story about their city.

34 students from our school participated in this competition they wrote articles on various known and unknown, tangible and intangible legacies of our city Delhi.

As part of the concluding ceremony of this programme 8 students from classes VII – IX namely Mahima, Ojasvi (VII), Sidhanto, Sonal (VIII), Sandeep, Prateek, Akshi and Shubra (IX) received an opportunity to be part of the felicitation ceremony in which they not only received certificates on behalf of their fellow school mates but also enjoyed a Heritage walk in Lodhi Garden which was headed by INTACH.

Our Heritage walk co-ordinates Ms Swapna Liddle – co – convenor. INTACH, Delhi CHAPTER TOOK US FOR AN Interactive heritage walk in the lodhi garden. She covered various buildings like Bada Gumbad, Sheesh Gumbad, Sikander Lodhi’s tomb and Mubaraq Shah’s Tomb.

She made the students aware about different architectural features like cobbled doorways, male & female tombs, carvings on lime stone plasters, Qalima. Ms Swapna also made the students aware as to how Mubaraq Shah’s Tomb was constructed by using pulses, grounded stones, jaggery. It was indeed a great learning experience.

Akshi and Shubra of class IX also shared their experience with the rest of their school mates in the Morning Assembly. In the assembly they not only made the students aware about this architectural splendour but also urged the students to protect and preserve our tangible heritage as the future citizens of the country.

8th International Hindi Festival : 6^th and 7^th Feb 2010

8^th International Hindi Festival was organized by ‘Aksharam’ in collaboration with ICCR (Indian council for cultural Relations) at ICCR auditorium, Azad Bhawan ITO, New Delhi on 6^th & 7^th February 2010. Two teachers of the school Shikha Sharma and Sapna Khosla attended the inauguration ceremony on 6^th February 2010 of the two day programme. The president of ICCR Dr. Karan Singh started the programme in which Mahamahim Mukeshwar Chunni, High commissioner of Mautitius was the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour of the occasion were Dr. Ratnakar Pandey & Smt. Kamla Singhavi. Several Hindi laureates from India and abroad were also present. Prof. Tatyana Oranskaiya from Germany, Prof. Genadi Shlomper from Israel, Dr. Naresh Bhartiya from Britain and Tatyana Duvyanskaya from Russia were among them.

In his inaugural speech Dr. Karan Singh said that the number of people who are interested in learning Hindi is increasing and Hindi Films are playing a major role in this. The ideals of Indian culture should flourish through the medium of Hindi. Hindi should not be used as a language in the world, but as a cultural definition.

Famous Hindi writer and poet Dr. Kanhaiya Lal Nandan in his presidential speech gave blessings for the success of this two day programme.

Prof. Genadi of Israel said that when the Indian people hear him speaking in Hindi, they are amazed. They think that if this people is speaking in Hindi, then he is their well wisher and has not come to harm them.

Prof. Tatyana came from Russia to attend this event. She said that many people in her country want to learn Hindi but the facilities are not enough. If this is taken care of then Hindi will be the language of the world family.

The second session opened the new horizons for Hindi as a computer language. There are many software programmes available which are very useful for the learners and users of Hindi. One such programme was a bilingual Thesauras (Hindi-English-Roman) – Arvind Lexican, which has been prepared after the hard work of 35 years. It has more than 600,000 English and Hindi expressions. Other software was Shrutlekham Software by CDAC in which the typing in Hindi could be done by speech only. Microsoft – indic – language – tool provides a key – board which is common for all Indian languages.

It was a memorable experience for both of the teachers.

Inter House Hindi Debate Competition : Class IV - V : 8^th Feb 2010

On 8^th Feb 2010, The Indian School organized the Inter House Hindi Debate Competition in the Foundation Hall. The event was organized by Surya House. Eight children of class IV & V spoke on the topic ‘ Daant se Chhutkara ab computer hai teacher hamara’. They spoke for and against the topic.

Kashika Grag, Shubhangi Arora and Saumya Saxena bagged the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd prize respectively.

Chandra House stood 1^st, Surya 2^nd and Varun 3^rd.

The judges for the events were Ms Shikha Sharma and Ms Kajal Soni.

Inter House English Poetry Competition : Class III - V : 5^th Feb 2010

On 5^th Feb 2010, Friday an English Poetry Competition was organized by the Indra House in the auditorium. The students of class III, IV and V participated for this competition. One students from each house and from each class was selected and showed his poetry speaking talents. The students enjoyed listening to poetries from different students on different topics. Some were full of humour, while some had emotions, some had a patriotic passion and some were a fairy tale story.

Trip to National Bal Bhawan Museum : Class III : 5^th Feb 2010

The student of class III were taken for an educational cum fun trip to the National Bal Bhawan on 5^th Feb 2010. The students were excited and keen to learn the various art and craft activities.

Bal Bhawan is an institution which aims at enhancing the creative potentials of children by providing them various activities, opportunities to interact, experiment, create and perform according to their age, aptitude and ability. It offers a barrier free environment with immense possibilities of innovation minus stress or strain.

The national museum at Bal Bhawan had three facets to it. It housed an aquarium, a sun (solar) museum and a doll museum. We saw awe inspiring artifacts, toys & dolls from various countries, stone & bronze objects, traditional jewellery, ancient utensils, art & craft material & musical instruments. The museum fulfilled its aim to inspire children and help them develop a better sense of their worlds past and present.

The students attended a variety of workshops like – dance, woodwork, art & craft, needle work, clay & pottery, origami & paper craft etc. Each workshop could accommodate a group of twenty students and the volunteer teachers taught them the required skill. Students learned dance steps (kathak), mat weaving, making friendship bands (using paper beads), wood art and little objects crafted with clay. The students were completely engaged and absorbed in the activities, it was truly a learning experience.

“Bye Bye Winter – Welcome Spring”

Students depicted the changes which occur in these two seasons through a skit and culminated the assembly with a spring song accompanied by presenting flowers to the teachers.
