CBSE teacher workshop on Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being

On Saturday, 17 May 2025, The Indian School had the privilege of hosting the "CBSE Capacity Building Programme on Promoting Mental Health and Well-Being", a compelling workshop focused on advancing holistic education through emotional and mental wellness. Held in the Foundation Hall, the session brought together 60 educators dedicated to fostering inclusive and mentally healthy learning environments.

The workshop was conducted by Principal Ms Joshi, in collaboration with Ms Sukhdeep Kaur, an educator from Army Public School. Together, they led a session marked by reflection, learning, and purposeful dialogue.

Rooted in the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF), the session explored the evolving role of educators in nurturing emotionally intelligent, value-based classrooms. Ms Joshi opened with heartfelt anecdotes from her own teaching journey, illustrating how small, everyday actions can significantly contribute to a child's emotional well-being.

A key focus of the programme was the "Happiness Curriculum" and the role of teachers in promoting mental health within schools. Educators were encouraged to embrace their influence beyond academics and recognise their pivotal role in a learner's emotional development.

Participants, grouped by the subjects they teach, engaged in interactive activities such as:

Future Classroom Sketch: A creative task to envision classrooms centred around empathy, autonomy, and mental well-being.

Cross-Cutting Themes: A group reflection on integrating emotional resilience, values, and health into lesson planning.

Competency-Based Question Design: Subject-specific exercises aligned with the NEP’s emphasis on rational thinking and holistic education.

The facilitators also led a discussion on the current challenges facing students' mental and physical health in India, reinforcing the importance of embedding empathy and well-being in School culture. Teachers were encouraged to take the initiative in developing responsive, learner-centric curricula.

The session concluded with an open discussion on implementing NEP and NCF principles in classroom practice. The teachers left inspired, with renewed purpose and practical insights into creating emotionally supportive and academically enriching environments.
