Pre primary visit to the National Rail Museum
“Learning comes alive when children step outside the classroom and explore the world around them,” and this was beautifully reflected on Friday, 24 April 2026, when the Pre primary went for an excursion to the National Rail Museum.
The children were filled with excitement as this was their very first outing of the new session with their friends and teachers. They lined up happily, boarded the buses, and waved goodbye to School with smiles. As the buses headed to the museum, the children enjoyed the journey, singing rhymes like “The Wheels of the Bus Go Round and Round” and “If You Are Happy and You show it..” They eagerly prompted their teacher, “Ma’am, when will we reach?” in their excitement.
The museum showcases India’s rich railway heritage. The visit aimed to give the children a firsthand introduction of the means of transportation and how the railway system connects the country. On reaching the museum, the children walked through the galleries to view the collection of old engines, and coaches. The teachers explained that the railways are one of the most important and economical means of transport in India, linking people across different regions. The children explored miniature train models, vintage locomotives, and other railway exhibits in great curiosity. Many children shared their excitement and volunteered personal experiences.
Once done at the museum, the children were enthralled by the toy train! They could not contain their thrill as they boarded the train for a joy ride. All aboard the whistle blew and the engine roared. Spinning wheels beginning to grip, these are the sounds as we start our trip! Reminding everyone of the lines from the popular cartoon Thomas and Friends, the toy train, its engine, and coaches chuffed through a tunnel as the jubilant students cheered in glee! Soon, the surroundings were filled with the cheerful sounds of, “chuk-chuk-chuk, our train is moving!”
The ride was full of laughter, joy, and unforgettable memories. After the train ride, the children reluctantly lined up, boarded the buses, and returned to School, happily enjoying their tiffins and sharing their experiences.
The excursion to the National Rail Museum was both enjoyable and enriching, helping the children learn about trains and transportation while creating lasting memories with their friends and teachers.
