Self Discovery Week in Pre primary
“Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
At our School, education is envisioned as a transformative journey—one that goes beyond academics to kindle self-awareness, confidence, and character. Rooted in this vision, the new academic session began with great enthusiasm as the customary Self Discovery Week unfolded in the first week of April. This special week was devoted to unlocking the talent nestled within each young mind through a series of imaginative, joyful, and meaningful activities.
The week began with a Self-Portrait Drawing Fiesta—a colourful medley of imagination and observation. Armed with mirrors in one hand and crayons in the other, our tiny Picassos of appreciation primary captured their wide-eyed wonder, crooked smiles, and button noses with childlike pride. The classrooms transformed into galleries of cherubic charm, each portrait a testament to innocent self-awareness.
Accompanying this visual delight was the heartwarming rhyme “I Am Special”. With verse echoing through the corridors, our fledgling philosophers danced and sang their way into newfound self-belief. The rhyme became both a lyrical celebration of individuality and an emotional anchor affirming that every child is a masterpiece in progress.
In “My Future Looks Bright” , the children pressed their tiny handprints onto paper bulbs—symbolising bright aspirations and boundless dreams. These radiant prints, like constellations on a celestial canvas, were gentle reminders that even the smallest hands can hold big dreams. Adding to the cosmic charm was “I Am Ready to Shine”, where sponge-printed stars glimmered with confidence and hope.
An artistic highlight of the week was the activity inspired by the delightful tale “I’m Not Just a Scribble”. What began as spontaneous doodles soon evolved into imaginative masterpieces—trees, clouds, suns, and the Scribble character himself! This creative exercise reminded us that behind every swirl lies intention and creative promise.
Diving into emotional intelligence, the children engaged with emoticon flashcards—examining and mimicking feelings like joy, sadness, and surprise. With paint and expression, they created vibrant imprints of their emotions, offering glimpses into their thoughtful little worlds. Little Zoravar shared, “I’m happy when I’m with Mumma” while Vidhit exclaimed, “I feel sad and cry when my finger gets caught in the door”. Mirhaan added joyfully, “I’m excited because Mumma and Papa are taking me on a trip!”
To celebrate each child’s uniqueness, they were presented with crowns and title badges—lovingly inscribed with affirmations like "Intellect Icon," "Smile Ambassador," and "Friendly Friend." Watching them wear these with pride was truly heartening. Amidst the excitement, Hitiksha exclaimed, “I want to wear this crown and become a queen!”—a touching reminder of the purpose behind it all: every child is special and deserving of recognition.
Self Discovery Week was a delightful expedition into the inner worlds of our youngest learners. It planted seeds of confidence, curiosity, and compassion. Like little explorers on their first voyage, our prodigies immersed themselves in activities that encouraged reflection, emotional expression, and creativity. With every crayon stroke and every giggle, they unearthed fragments of their personalities—hidden gems waiting to shine. By encouraging them to recognise their uniqueness and visualise their potential, we’ve set the stage for a year filled with purpose and promise.
