Sidney Sheldon rightly said, “Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life.”

The Indian School observed Library Week from 1-5 November 2022 in great enthusiasm. A assortment of carefully planned activities were planned by the library department for the week. Students took a reading pledge as an auspicious start to a glorious cause.

Ms Bharati Bedi conducted a storytelling session for the students of class 2 on 2 November 2022. She narrated the story of a boy who loved outdoor activities, using an origami activity.

On 3 November 2022, Ms Priya Kulkarni narrated a beautiful story of two ducks named Laalu and Peelu. She used hand puppets to narrate the story. Students of class 3 greatly enjoyed listening to the story and also crafted some duckhand puppets.

A storytelling session was also organised for the students of class 4 by Ms Shikha Sharma. The name of the story was ‘कौन बनेगा राजा’. It was a real life story of a wise king who was looking for a successor as he did not have one. The story was taken from author, Sudha Murthy’s book, named ‘Seed of Truth’. The tiny tots were greatly animated by the session.

The same day, a workshop on creative writing was held in the auditorium for the the students of classes 6 and 7 by author, Dr Sabina Pillai. Oxford India Publishers helped in organising this workshop. Around 200 students were a part of the session. Ms Pillai not only provided some very useful creative writing tips to the students but also encouraged them to think beyond the ordinary.

On 4 November 2022, the students of class 5 enjoyed listening to a captivating story narrated by Ms Priya Manchanda. The name of the story was ‘डब्बू ने सबक सीखा’. Ms Kulkarni used hand puppets for the narration and engaged the students in an activity based on Hindi मुहावरे.

This was organised through Goyal Brothers Publications and Ms Tarana Chakerwarti was the resource person. She spoke about stress, factors causing it, good and bad stress, ways to reduce it etc. She engaged the students in a couple of activities aiming at reducing stress.

While there were storytelling sessions at School, a book fair by Scholar India was held on campus. Scholar India is the distributor of publishers like Rupa, Random House, Scholastic, Penguin, Katha, Tulika etc. The book fair was very popular, particularly, as it was held after three years. The children had a wonderful time browsing through books. The lucky draw was a big attraction. Three students from won books in the lucky draw! These were Hanshika (4 D), Ananya Abrol (4 A), and Nivriti Naswa (8 C).

More than 200 books were contributed by students during the book donation drive, to be donated to ‘Guzarish: Books for All’.
