Citizenship Programme initiative: Class 9 visits the Sulabh International Museum Complex

On Monday, October 9, 2023, an educational trip was undertaken to the Sulabh International Museum Complex under the aegis of the School Citizenship Programme. The group comprised 81 students from class IX and three faculty members, Ms Ruby Dey, Ms Sumi Denis, and Mr Rohit Dubey. The primary objective of the excursion was to educate the students about the history of toilets worldwide.

The museum is divided into three sections that describe ancient, medieval, and modern toilets, providing an in-depth exploration of the entire history of toilets.

In addition to the educational aspects of the trip, the students benefited from an in-depth presentation by Sulabh representatives. This included a detailed lecture on various subjects, such as the water treatment plant, biogas plant, and a thorough demonstration of how the two-pit toilet system functions in rural India. Furthermore, Dr Bindeshwar Pathak's documentary was screened, providing a comprehensive understanding of methods for water treatment, aimed at combating chemical contamination and averting life-threatening diseases specifically in the West Bengal region.

This educational trip helped reiterate the importance of sanitation as a fundamental aspect of life, for our youmg students. Dr Bindeshwar Pathak will remain etched in their memories, for he embodies the spirit of Mahatma Gandhi in his ongoing battle against the deplorable practice of manual scavenging.
