CBSE Subject Updates for class 9
For the academic session 2026–27, Central Board of Secondary Education has introduced important updates in the following subjects:
Class IX Mathematics and Science: The subjects will now have two pathways – Core Mathematics and Science, which are for all students, and Advanced Mathematics and Science, which are optional for students who wish to study the subjects in greater depth.
At this stage, there is no division between Basic and Standard Mathematics. The revised curriculum places a greater emphasis on conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, and the application of Mathematics and Science in real-life situations. Assessments will also be more application-based, competency-focused, and project-oriented, to encourage deeper learning and practical understanding.
English curriculum for Class IX: The earlier division into English Communicative (Code 101) and English Language & Literature (Code 184) has been replaced by a single subject: English.
This unified syllabus brings together communicative skills, literature, and grammar within one framework, ensuring balanced development of reading, writing, and critical thinking. Students will now study English using the new textbook Kaveri, which is aligned with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-2023).
Assessment in English will prioritise comprehension, articulation, analytical ability, and application, moving away from rote memorisation.
