Hello dear Parents!

The fresh scholastic year began as a 'new normal' and we faced manifold challenges. As we all know, changes and challenges are inbuilt in the process of evolution and how quickly we adapt and reorient, is a great test of character.

In this regard, I am very proud to share that boththe teachers and the students rose valiantly to overcome, as it were. They not only adjusted quickly to online classes, but also proceeded undeterred with the events on the School calendar! This test of character was thus cleared with flying colours!Congrats to each one, including you, dear parents for lending your whole hearted cooperation.

  • World Environment Day Celebrations

The Indian School student community organised a plethora of online activities to observe the green day on 5 June 2020. The initiative was aimed at highlighting the role that young people must play in preventing a loss of biodiversity and preserving nature for a cleaner and greener future in our communities.

A webinar by Mr. Vimlendu Jha, noted environmentalist, was organised for the students of classes VII and VIII. The topic discussed during the webinar was Indias environment.

  • Investiture Ceremony

The customary Investiture Ceremony for the new Student Council at both, the senior and junior levels, was held on 24 July, 2020. Owing to the pandemic, the ceremony was organised online. The newly invested young office bearers received their positions from the outgoing council members and pledged to fulfil their duties with initiative, effort and integrity.

  • Model United Nations

The prevailing lockdown inspired the MUN organising team, to rise to the challenge to host IMUNs first inter-school online edition. This was held from 8-12 August 2020. Serving as a forum for meaningful discussion, debate, and discourse for school students, the Indianite MUN proudly hosted over 140 delegates from different schools. The agendas chosen for the various committees carried significance and universal appeal.

Deliberation upon the future of Secularism with the advent of CAA.

The Kargil War

Combating systematic oppression faced by Asexuals in the LGBTQIA+ community.

Discovery of the Ten Rings of Power and the Return of Team Sinister to wreak havoc on Earth.

The possibility of COVID-19 as a Bio weapon to increase Border Tensions and start War.

  • Annual Exhibition

School hosted the Annual Exhibition virtually, during the pandemic lockdown on 14 August, 2020. The high spirits of the students were an equal match to their vivid and brilliant displays and presentations. The exposition highlighted the years School theme, Technology -Then, Now and Ahead.Dr AshokPandey, eminent educationist, graced the occasion as chief guest. Theannual science magazine, Science Musings was also released online.

  • 19thDr Amidas Goradia National Inter school Debate

School hosted the 19th Dr Amidas Goradia National Inter school Debate on 27 and 28 August 2020 on the Zoom Pro platform. A formidable 28 prominent schools from diverse regions of the country, made their presence felt at the coveted inter school contest. This year the event saw in attendance, seven new schools from Amritsar, Hazaribag, Kolkata, Bokaro and Madurai. Our chief guest at this year's debate was Lord Meghnad Desai, noted British parliamentarian, economist and author.

This years debate was dedicated to four landmark commemorations:

Birth centenary of two legends of science: Vikram Sarabhai and Hanumanthappa Narasimhaiah.

150th and 100th birth commemorations of Vladimir Ilyich Lenin and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman respectively.

The debatewas a gripping contest of conviction and opinion building.

  • 16thDr. Amidas Goradia Inter-School Hindi Debate

Held on 29 August, 2020, this event drew the participation of 15 schools of Delhi/ NCR and was presided over by Shri Dhyanendra Mani Tripathi, noted writer and musician. It was a delight to observe the young primary level debaters articulate their opinions with conviction and alacrity.

  • Reading Week

School held Reading Week from 8-14 September, 2020. An eclectic plethora of activities was organised to keep the young readers engaged and make them fall in love with books again and again.

Face the Book Challenge, Dress up as Your Favourite Character, Read Folktales from Around the World were some activities that the students participated in with avidity.

On 10 September 2020,classes VI and VII attended a session conducted by Oxford University Press where they were introduced to new styles and genres among age appropriate books.

  • Overseas cultural exchanges through Skype classrooms

COVID-19 has impacted the lives of students and teachers, not only in India, but all over the world. Online education and an inability to move outdoors freely during these unprecedented times has taught everyone to adapt to new ways of living. To make learning a fun experience and to convert the lockdown period into an opportunity, several online sessions were organised by School, giving the students an opportunity to collaborate with their counterparts in other parts of the world.

Students across the classes, collaborated with peers and educators on Skype, in countries such as Japan, Vietnam, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, Egypt and Sweden. The collaboration exposed the students to diverse cultures, ways of life and new

experiences from the world over, of life inlockdown! These exchanges infused new confidence and perspective amongst the students.

  • Webinars for Students

On 17 May, 2020, Ms Meenu Arora, a noted psychologist who specialises in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT), Stress Management and Adolescent Counseling took an online session on How to cope with Anxiety during the Pandemic 2020.

A webinar on Digital learning: Impact on mental and physical health of students in the present scenario, was conducted on 2 June 2020. The speaker was Dr Deepak Gupta (Senior Consultant, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and the moderator was Dr Shalini Advani (Director, Pathways School, Noida).

A webinar on Career Counselling was arranged for the students of classes XI and XII on 26 June, 2020. The objective was to familiarise the students about the different courses offered at universities located not just in Delhi, but also outside. Mr Jitin Chawla, noted popular career counsellor engaged the students in a lively session where he discussed upcoming career options available for young adults.

A webinar and panel discussion was again organised by noted career counsellor, Jitin Chawlas Centre for Career Development on Understanding Changes in Delhi University on 29 June, 2020. The session focused on the steps to be followed for admission to DU in relation to course selection, placement, new courses and the application process.

A webinar co-hosted by Ms Vrinda Tandon and Ms Parneet Shergill of Ashoka University was organised for the students of classes XI and XII on 30 June, 2020. This session proved to be very beneficial for the students as they comprehended the utility and horizons of a liberal arts education. It gave them new perspective to look beyond conventional choices.

The current times have highlighted the need to bring about a change in our approach to life and management skills. It has forced us to rethink skill-building for professional competence. A webinar was organised on Transferable Skills and Career Competencies required in 2025, in collaboration with IncubateINDX, on 3 July, 2020, for the students of classes XI and XII. The mentor on the occasion was Prof. Arjya B Majumdar (Dean, Admissions and Outreach at O.P. Jindal Global University (JGU).

An online workshop on Road Safety was organised for the students of class 5 on 31 July, 2020. The session was conducted by Mr Sunil Kumar (Delhi Traffic Police), to enable primary level students understand the importance of following road safety rules.

Students of science in classes XI and XII attended a workshop in Computer Science to know more about cutting edge technologies. The workshop was organised by the faculty of Ashoka University on 10 August, 2020. The resource person was Prof. Ravi Kothari, Head of Department & Professor of Computer Science.

A webinar was conducted by Times NIE in association with IMS on Law as a Career, on 31 August 2020 and was attended bythe students of Humanities and Commerce in classes 11 and 12. The session was conducted by Mr Siddharth Singhal, senior faculty at IMS.

Summer Internship

A summer internship for the students of commerce was held from 8-12 June, 2020 with the support and collaboration of Mr Akshat Maheshwari, CA. The internship was attended by 20 students of class XI C and was conducted on the online collaboration platform Microsoft Teams.

Achievements of our students

ExploreIt and The Climate Reality Project collaborated with the United Nations Environmental Programme for the competition Humans For Earth on the occasion of World Environment Day. Ekveer Sahoo (IX) took part in this event with his presentation of the famous song Heal the World on the piano, winning theFirst Prizein the Performers Category.

Design Sprint Challenge, a Hackathon event was organised by IncubatINDX and aimed at encouraging students of classes 9-12 to think innovatively to solve real life problems, Ekveer Sahoo (IX) won theThird Prize.

At Chunauti-2020: Open Mic Poetry Competition, an inter school competition organised online by Apeejay School, Saket on 11 May 2020, Anushka Saxena of XI-A bagged theThird Positionfor her self composed poem titled Lockdown A Time of Realisation. The event drew the participation of 50 students from Mumbai, Kolkata and Delhi.

At a storytelling event on 21 May 2020 organised by Pep Up, (known for shadow stories and shadow puppets), Areesha Misbah, class 2C won theSecond Prizewhich included a cash award of Rs. 1,000 and a digital certificate. Areesha narrated the story, Nav chali by V. Suteyev using hand puppets.

At Polaroid, A Short Film and Photography (inter school) Festival held at Tagore International School, EOK, from 23 to 27 May 2020, Mayank Ahujas (XII) film, Internet: a medium which spreads fake news and the reality of the situation never comes out was awarded theThird Prize.

In an online inter school competition for Art Enthusiasts with Excellent Oratory Skills held by Sunbeam School, Varuna, Varanasi, on 3 June 2020, Pronoy Mitra, class 8 won the (digital) certificate ofSpecial Mention.

Anvika Narang, class IXwon the Weekend Deserts of India Challenge conducted by INTACHon 24 June 2020

Aarav Bansal of class VI was named District topper and awarded theMedal of Excellenceat KAMP -NIISTAD ( Knowledge and Awareness Mapping Platform)-an initiative of CSIR-National Institute of Science and Development Studies.

Vihaan Singh Narang class VI Cwon the Young Intach Quizon diverse communities of India held on 9 July 2020.

In the online Literati Fest 2020 held on 20 July 2020 at Amity International School Gurugram, Mohammad Umar and Vahid Ghanbari of class XD were awarded theSecond Prizein the Movie Making event for their film on the theme Millennial Resilient Future.

At TECH SMART 2020, an inter school competition held online by DAV Public School Gurugram on 28 July 2020, Karamjot Singh Bedi and Sidharth Vatsa of class XII of secured theThird Positionfor their audio clip and song composition.

Vidya Taneja, class XII D was awardedSpecial Mentionfor her performance in The TarkShetra Youth Parliament 2020: Vicharon ka Kurukshetra, held by DPS, Noida on 29 August 2020.

All in all, it was an eventful and fulfilling term. A novel experience, although initially overwhelming, has built in us a new resilence. We are now armed better than ever before to face the future.
