The Indian School Diwali Mela
( Organised by the students of class VIII for classes VI and VII)
A Diwali Mela cum Christmas Fete is organised by the children each year as part of a mathematics' activity.
The objectives of the exercise are:
To encourage financial literacy among students.
To strengthen concepts of Profit & Loss, Discount, and Percentages with a hands-on experience.
To learn the 'value of money'.
To foster a spirit of team work and organisation.
The Mela will include the following attractions:
Handmade items such as cards, diyas ,torans etc.
Food stalls which would comprise of bakery items, juices, savouries and snacks prepared by the students themselves.
Mathematical and skill-based games.
The students of classes VI and VII can buy coupons for the Mela from their class teachers. The parents are requested to keep a 'cap' on the allowance handed to the children and extend their cooperation to make the event a success.
The sale proceeds will be handed over to charity by the children as SHRAMDAAN.
