3rd Dr. Amidas Goradia Memorial Intra school Badminton Tournament

A sound mind resides in a sound body. With the aim of enhancing the well-being of our students, an intra-school badminton competition, 3rd Dr. Amidas Goradia Memorial Badminton Tournament was held in the Schools skating rink from 24 to 27 July 2018.

Chairman, Mr. Prafull Goradia, graced the occasion. He reiterated that a game like badmintin required a lot of control, strength and presence of mind to play. The fine and calculated movements help to create leaders for the future. Dr. (Mrs.) Nayana Goradia, Vice Chairperson, also marked her presence and motivated the participants with her precious words. She quoted, Enjoy your failures as they teach you where your weaknesses lie. Only then can you emerge as a champion.

The tournaments opening ceremony began with a cutting of the ribbon by Principal, Ms. Tania Joshi, who said, Ability is what youre capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it. The most important thing to remember is always keeping a positive attitude both on and off the field. She added that it does not matter whether one wins or not. In the long run a persons active and continued participation in sports pays rich dividends in terms of fitness, well-being and happiness.

The Senior Badminton team of The Indian School organised this tournament, as per the tradition, for students of secondary and senior secondary classes. More than 100 students actively participated in full enthusiasm. They learned team work and leadership along with the game per se. The experience also taught to handle defeat. Participants took part in 5 categories namely: Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, Girls Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

The first position in the Girls Singles was taken by Shreya Palit (X-B) after she defeated Sehajnoor (IX-E) in the final. In the Boys Singles group Gunraj (XI-A) won the final against Aryan (XI-B). In the Girls Doubles category, Shreya Palit (X-B) and Gursimar (X) were declared the winners against Avreen (X) and Shukta Bhatia (X). Arsalaan Arif Radhu (XII) and Mihir Marwah (XII) won the final in the Boys Doubles against Aryan (X) and Ronit (IX). Last but not the least in the Mixed Doubles, the team comprising Sehajnoor (IX-E) and Bubbyansh (X-A) won the final match against Pranav Tanwar (XII-C) and Kriti (XII).

The event was thrilling and thoroughly enjoyed by all the participants, abundantly infusing a spirit of sportsmanship in them.
