Aero show at School

Since time immemorial, man has always been wonder struck about the science of flying. In fact man has always wanted to fly.

It is therefore expected that young people will also want to discover the science of flight. Therefore, our School organised a short term introductory aero-modelling course in collaboration with India's Hobby Shack for the students who seemed interested in it. The duration of the course was twenty weeks. It was organised at School every alternate working Saturday. The instructors from the institute came to teach and provide a hands-on experience of the subject, aero-modelling to the students.

On 15th April 2017, we started the course The instructors dealt with the theoretical concept of aero-modelling including laws of Physics like Bernoulli's Principle, Newton's Third Law of Motion - etc. in the initial classes. Then the students were taught about an ideal aerofoil shape, and how one can build an ideal streamlined body. In the next step, students were guided to craft a miniature model of a plane using plywood, sandpaper and glue.

At last came the long awaited moment for the students, when they were taught to build a glider with a wingspan of one metre. Over the course of the next three months, the students toiled to make their self built planes achieve perfection.

Finally, at the end of three arduous months, it was a great achievement both for the students as well as their instructors when the students sighted the fruit of their labour. Voila! Each one's flight proudly took off on the School backfield. The plane models flew smoothly, soaring high over the School building! It was indeed a very proud moment for all.

Everybody's eyes glistened with tears of joy and it was quite obvious from the expression of the students that - given another chance, they would love to relive these precious moments again and again.
