Alumni Dandiya Evening, 2013

Colourful ethnic costumes, the fervent beats of the drums, the tightly- clasped dandiya sticks, the rush of dancing into the evening; nothing is more eagerly awaited than the dandiya at School during Navratri! Quite like poetry, the dance marries energetic steps with drumbeats and Gujarati rhythmic folk song.

The drizzle in the morning on 11 October, 2013 blessed the occasion that evening. Alumni started arriving as did students of classes 10, 11 and 12. Loud cheers broke out in welcome as old faces were sighted. It was an emotional occasion for both, the alumni and their beloved teachers. Several eyes were glassy.

Soon the tempo of the music mounted and the dancing began with garba by the students of class 10 on a traditional song. The beat was entreating and hardly anybody remained off the arena. Steadily the number of concentric circles multiplied and it became a vigorous visual of a communal celebration!

There was a variety of snack food to satisfy those hungry. - chaat, tikki, matar-kulcha, etc. and iced-tea amply tempted the taste buds!

The evening slipped rapidly and reluctantly the children dispersed. It had been another memorable meeting of hearts; students, teachers and alumni. Needless to say we all pine to assemble again.
