An arty aurora at the tomb of Firoz Shah Tughlaq
The students of classes 9 and 11 enjoyed an art- filled morning on August 12, 2014 as they drew scintillating silhouettes at the Firoz Shah Tughlaq Tomb, a heritage site adopted by our school under the CBSE Education Program, Adopt a Monument.
The Students were briefed about the history and politics of the Delhi sultan, Firoz Shah Tughluq, who in the 14th century, who established the cities of Firozabad, Hissar Firoza, and Firozshah Kotla across the hinterland of the northern plains. He also laid out a number of gardens and madrasas in the heart of these cities. In the vicinity of one such madrasa in Hauz Khas, the Sultan was laud to rest.
The students were also educated about the various facets of Indo- Islamic architecture and patterns such as the Dome, the Chattri, Jharokas, Qibla, Mihrab, the Arch and so forth.
Our art teacher, Ms. Shaswati who accompanied the students to the Tomb gave them interesting insights into the nuances and considerations to be taken into account while attempting a canvas on a monument. For example, one should start with the background, work to the middle ground, and only then create the smaller details.

The students successfully captured the picturesque and enthralling sight of the monument even as they enjoyed being by it. The proportions of the place and its historic legacy inspired and energised them as they created remarkable reproductions of the monument from different perspectives.
Undoubtedly it had been a joyous exercise of creativity.
