An orientation about Summer Programmes for senior students abroad

Sagmeet, Sadaf and I of class 9 went to the American Embassy School on 25 November, 2013, to attend a workshop conducted by well-known professor, Mr. James Basker. Mr. Basker was educated at Harvard, Cambridge, and also Oxford, where he was a Rhodes' Scholar. He taught for 7 years at Harvard before coming over to New York. He has been visiting professor at NYU, Cambridge and others. The Professor is also founder and president of the OxBridge Academic Programs, which has sponsored summer programmes and teacher seminars at Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, and Barcelona for more than 20 years.

As we entered, a friendly lady guided us to the Hall of Peace where the workshop was to be held. Chairs were placed in rows where we were to be seated. Mr. James Basker introduced himself. We then learned about the student programmes he has designed and directed at Oxford, Cambridge, Paris and Montpelier in Barcelona as also New York. These are programmes for which students enroll to pursue a subject they enjoy, to try one they have never done and even to perfect their writing skills or build a background for college. Some students attend these to escape the pressures of GPA and class ranks and others do so to experience living in a foreign country or to indulge their love for different cultures!

It was a really interesting workshop and inspired us to enroll in the summer programmes and spend our vacations constructively.
