Beyond the text, The Hindu, NIE Programme
In pursuance of efforts to provide students a learning experiences beyond the black and white print of their textbooks, a 2 day workshop was organised by our School under the auspices of The Hindu, NIE Programme on 12 and 13 February, 2013 for students of classes 6 to 9.
Students had activity- based interactions on Responsible and Irresponsible behaviour, Goal Setting as well as Skill Enhancement Games.
The workshop for class 6 students entailed attention games, memory games, listening games and the spelling bee. With the help of the various intellectual games the children's concentration level as also how observant they were were assessed. The participants were extremely animated and offered an active response to questions fielded. They attempted to think logically. The students also wrote stories on interesting situations suggested, for example, 'parks and plants', 'old man and window', ' storm and dog' and ' the mountain'.
In classes 7 to 9, interactive sessions on responsible and irresponsible behaviour and goal-setting, especially for class 9 dominated. The interaction started with inputs being invited from the children which were then directed to the topic of the session.
The meaning of Responsibility was well discussed in a broader sense to incorporate self- awareness. Students wrote down the alphabets of their names and matched each letter with their qualities, both positive as well as negative. The workshop ended very positively as it set students thinking about and identifying their qualities and their effect on themselves as we others. The workshop brought about a new consciousness for self-awareness amongst the children which can only help them develop the positive aspects as become better citizens of tomorrow.
