Blessing bounty for the boards

It was that time of the year again when class 12 students travel to Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple to seek the blessings of the Almighty for success in the board exams.

On 11th November17 the class 12 batch assembled in School at 5 a.m., all set for their pilgrimage. Reaching the railway station at 6 a.m. we discovered that the train was delayed due to the smog. However even this delay was received with excitement!

We boarded the train on its platform as students clicked pictures, nibbled tidbits carried from home and chatted away. At Amritsar Junction we alighted for our destination. Though students were tired from the train journey, but the spectacle of the Golden Temple in the soft evening released all our fatigue.

After darshan at the Harminder Sahib we sat beside the sarovar for a while. The blue and white lights on the tranquil water body had an inexpressible soothing effect. We went on to take a taste of the generous langar and then stopped by to pick up souvenirs in the local markets nearby.

At 10 p.m. we returned to Amritsar Junction with bags stuffed with our goodies like pretty phulkari dupattas, jootis and plentiful memories.

Upon reaching the railway station we had to wait for a while since the train was again delayed and we eventually ended up spending half of our next day on the train itself. So much for the relentless smog over north India.

Even though the trip comprised of long and tiring journeys, it will be a precious memory, to be held very close to our hearts. Our last trip as a class was uplifting even as our heartstrings tugged with the pangs of an imminent parting as we graduate.
