Book Discussion event
On 16th December 2017, a group of students from our School participated in the 22nd Annual Rosalind Wilson Book Discussion, a non-competitive event hosted by Springdales School, Pusa Road. The discussion was based on Ayn Rands Anthem, a dystopian fiction novella, set in a time when mankind entered a Dark Age and the concept of individuality was eliminated.
Teams from about 20 schools had come to participate in the event. Mr. Nirmalaya Samanta (Associate Professor Ramanujan College, Delhi University) presided over the discussion as moderator and Mr. Soli Sorabjee was chief guest.
Mallika Mukim and Nipunh Kothari of class XI were our main speakers along with Avantika Chodha and Samarth Saxena as audience- speakers. The discussion was an interesting one in which students voiced varied opinions, commenting upon the storyline, the narrative and the characters of the book. They also gave their own perspectives on the same.
The discussion was centered around the ideas of individualism and collectivism, which are the pillars of the books plot. Students tried to connect the storyline with their daily lives and present day society. They even drew parallels with other novels such as George Orwells 1984.
The event was a good platform for reading enthusiasts from different schools to come together and share opinions. It was indeed a great learning experience.
