Bridging Differences
Students of class 4 were given the opportunity to communicate through letters with the students of Telscombe Cliffs Primary School, East Sussex in England. This programme provided an opportunity to build friendships based on sharing and learning. We sincerely hope that the friendship fostered in this way contributes to constructing a culture bridging differences; societal, ethnicities, religions and geographies.
The children from Telescombe Cliffs School wrote interesting letters with information about their families, their pets and their school. Our students were very excited at the prospect of writing to the children from Telscombe. My role as the mail carrier allowed me to see the energy used to convey the thoughts to each penpal as well as the excitement when the letter was taken out of the envelope! They loved to hear about other children of their own age from a distant place and enjoyed responding to the letters.

The children wrote imaginatively and neatly. They wrote about their families, their school, their city and the festival of lights- Diwali. All the students were extremely engaged throughout the writing process! Even reluctant writers were excited to pick up that pencil and share their thoughts with their new penpals!. It was wonderful seeing how excited each and every student was and I derived great pleasure seeing the wide smiles on their faces each time!
In the subsequent mail we received from Telscombe, they were very appreciative of our students' letters. Infact they said that they have displayed the letters as examples of good handwriting! They were delighted to learnabout Diwaliespeciallyas it is a part of their curriculum this term.
