CBSE class 10 math teacher workshop
The students face several challenges at some point in learning mathematical concepts and their applications in daily life. To help the teachers of class X in dealing with issues faced and to make the teaching process more effective, a brainstorming session was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education at Lions Public School, Ashok Vihar on 22 and 23 August 2019. The conclave saw a healthy participation of CBSE affiliated schools from across Delhi-NCR.
The two-day workshop was facilitated by Mr Akshay, teacher-trainer, C.B.S.E. and Mr Neeraj Saxsena, math teacher at Delhi Public School. The objective of the intensive course was to equip participants with the skills and competencies required to effectively transact the challenging content areas in mathematics.
Mr Akshay familiarised the course participants with the concept of multiple intelligences and assisted in the effective planning of their lessons. He shed light on various skills i.e. problem solving, critical thinking, logical reasoning, arithmetic computation, estimation, creativity and spatial, etc which are enhanced by the learning of mathematics.

The workshop helped teachers understand the genesis of the problems that students encounter in the learning of the subject. The teachers were encouraged to check previous knowledge by conducting a small test; practice and revise covered concepts; get involved in the learning process; connect math to everyday situations and so on. It was recommended that teachers understand the learning pattern of all types of students and plan their lessons accordingly.
The workshop was instrumental in suggesting valuable measures to make the teaching and learning process enhanced and effectual:
Know your students and accommodate their diverse learning needs.
Focus on conceptual understanding.
Be informed and get involved with different groups and organisations.
Be flexible.
Create a lively, playful and experiential learning environment in the classroom.
Use different teaching strategies, methods and resources (including technology and community resources) to support students interests.
Monitor student progress and provide immediate feedback to them.
Get feedback from students.
The interesting and informative two-day event concluded on an innovative note with Mathbola-finding the missing sides in the Pythagorean stack, making toys from trash, etc. The teachers were shown vistas of such activities which could be incorporated by them in their teaching to make lessons more engaging and exciting.
