Celebrating Unity in Diversity -Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat

India is a nation whose fabric has been woven by diverse linguistic, cultural and religious threads held together as a composite national identity. A rich history of cultural evolution, coupled with a rousing freedom struggle built around the tenets of non-violence and justice are its tenets.

The idea of a sustained and structured cultural connect between denizens of different regions was mooted by the Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat programme also known as EBSB. The programme was launched by the Honble Prime Minister on National Unity Day (also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas) which is observed every year on 31st October.

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and his efforts to unite India, the students of The Indian School, once again demonstrated their enthusiasm and zeal by participating in the various activities mentioned under the programme.

A session was conducted in the morning assemblies of classes III to IX in the month of January. As a part of the activity, students gave a brief talk on current events in the state of Sikkim. The students also presented a power point presentation on the social reformers of the state.

In the month of February another activity was organised for the students of classes III to V who walked the ramp displaying the costumes of the tribes of Sikkim. The students also showcased the diverse culture of their own, Delhi. The show was a great hit and ended with a group dance.

Keeping in mind our responsibility towards the environment, the students of classes VI and VII took a pledge to avoid single-use plastic.

The events aimed at celebrating the spirit of mutual understanding amidst a shared history. Such efforts help in promoting unity in diversity, a virtue that needs to be nourished and cherished.
