Citizenship Programme hands over proceeds of shramdaan for a free surgery at Delhi Council for Child Welfare's orthopaedic centre.

At 9.30 am on 11 May, 2016, Ms. Sangeeta Aswani, Ms. Kajal Soni accompanied Jasnoor Kaur Soni and Harshita Singhal of Class 10D for a visit to the Janakpuri centre of DCCW which looks after the orthopedic needs of underprivileged children and orphans. The children were carrying a cheque for Rs 12,500 from the proceeds of Shramdaan to support one orthopaedic surgery at this centre.

We were warmly welcomed by Mr. Anupam Sharma, administrator of the centre. We also met some of the doctors who make weekly visits to the centre and interacted with many of the physically disabled children who were undergoing physiotherapy. The children appeared very happy and cared for. They were also delighted to spend time with our students who played and chatted with them.

This centre also has a day care centre for small children whose parents have nowhere to leave them when they go out to look for work. The centre provides computer training and is also a vocational training centre for beauty culture for adolescent girls from nearby areas.

Earlier, the Citizenship group has visited and supported the Kashmere Gate and Dakshinpuri centres of DCCW. It is always a heartwarming, besides a great learning experience for our children to be among and reach out to those less fortunate.
