Citizenship Programme SPOTFIX at Sapna Cinema bus stand

Taking a cue from our efforts to spotfix the pillars of the flyovers in the vicinity of our School, the SDMC has taken charge of the redevelopment of the areas and is in the process of beautifying them with railings, plants and sculptures! Together with New Delhi Rising, once more, we looked further and identified a vandalised bus stand near Sapna Cinema for our next Spotfix. Our volunteers this time were Hemangi Srivastava, Himanshi Sharma, Jiya Jawa of 8D, Hargun Singh, Dhruv Arora, and Darsh Kumar of Class 9, Ms. Sandhya Batheja and Ms. Sangeeta Aswani. We arrived at the venue by 9 am and started our task. We first removed the multiple layers of posters which had been pasted with very strong adhesive.

The Citizenship Programme having recently started an Instagram account, Ms. Aswani posted the first trial live videopost on Instagram and Facebook as the children started working. Instantly we received plentiful encouragement on social media! We interviewed the parent of one of our school mates, who came to drop her child for the spotfix. She insisted that with efforts like spotfixing, the children of today are definitely making a mark to improve society and add value to their own character. It took over 2 hours to only remove the posters with water, a hard brush and a scraper. Thereafter, we cleaned up the areas and painted the wall behind the bus stop to give it a clean look. This was the toughest spot fix by far! Since this was a new sight for those living in the neighborhood, many passersby appreciated the work done by the students and even joined in to lend a helping hand! This bus stop was adjacent to a large park and several senior citizens strolling there stopped by to enquire and applaud the valiant effort! We left the bus stop with a fresh clean look, and will be back soon to beautify it, with some street art.
