Class 12 seeks a blessing at the Golden Temple

On 26 October,2013 the students of class 12 accompanied by our teachers set out on our last School excursion to Amritsar. To, together, seek blessings at the Golden Temple for accomplishment at our imminent board exams.

In great enthusiasm and anticipation we boarded the Shatabdi and quickly settled down to our chatter and packed hot snacks fom home. Some of us listened to music and some even sang. The camaraderie was expectedly enormous! The excitement of the excursion tinged with the pangs of an imminent parting..

The first stop was Jallianwalan Bagh, where we came face to face with the fight for India's freedom. It is an unforgettable edifice, which still carries the marks of bullets rained upon our countrymen who had gathered there on an innocent morning. The well, too, into which men, women and children had leapt in their desperation to escape the relentless gunfire stills stands in silent testimony. Several of us felt overwhelmed as we stood momentarily involved, as it were, in that gruesome episode of our history.

Afterwards, the group headed for the Golden Temple. The glistening dome stood in splendour as it's feet lay cradled in a vast pool, the gently creasing water carefully carrying the image of grandeur, as a clear looking glass. The Gurbani played continuously in the background and we spontaneously seated ourselves at the edge of the water, as if to collect some of that calm!

While some of us headed for a brief stop to the temple- langar, the rest waited at the edge of the tank, quietly assimilating the abundance.

After spending 3 hours in the temple complex, we decide to proceed to glimpse the citys markets. I must confess most of us were waiting to take a taste of the delectable Amritsari dhaba fare!

The train ride home was just as fun-filled. The moments raced, much as we tried to hold on to them! Several of us were sentimental and we made promises amongst ourselves, to continue to go again on trips like this even after School is done. The bonds will never break we reiterated in our bonhomie regardless where we be...
