Class 5 visits the School eco park

George Washington once said, I would rather be on my farm than be the emperor of the world.

48 students of class V accompanied by 3 teachers visited the School eco park on 4 February 2023 at 7:30 a.m. Such excursions greatly help to ingrain an appreciation for Mother Nature including the fresh air she offers and the flora and fauna that are made possible by her bounty. Being amidst nature is itself a special opportunity for our city bred children. In fact the students were awestruck by the fresh and natural beauty of the place. For them, it was an idyllic pastoral setting away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

The children were divided into groups and were led through the fields to see first hand how vegtables are grown. They were guided around the beds of assorted vegetables that were ready to be picked. They were told about how the seeds are sown, manured and nurtured the different seasonal produce. They were also shoen how vermicompost is regularly produced with dry leaves and earthworms in a vast pit. The students were shown how to judge if vegetables were ready to pick.

The students listened with great interest and then picked the ready produce themselves to take home.

Next the groups headed to the science section of the park, where the scientific curiosity of the students was fed by life size science models- the DNA model, fun with mirrors, musical tubes, Newton's Wheel and levers to name a few.

The children brimmed with happiness and excitement as they filled their bags with organic vegetables for home. Altogether, this trip to the School farm was an enriching experience. The students got a chance to engage with nature and invaluably learn from it.
