Class 5C engages with peers in Lisbon school

An exciting Mystery Skype session was organised fo the students of class 5C with students at Escola Basica Ferreira de Castro, Sintra, in Lisbon, Portugal on 18 May, 2023. The session aimed to provide an interactive and educational experience for the students, challenging them to guess the location of their partner school through a series of yes-or-no questions.

The Mystery Skype session was an engaging and immersive activity that captivated the students' curiosity. Both schools refrained from disclosing their respective locations and instead relied on strategic questioning to uncover the mystery! The session was conducted via a video conference platform, allowing real-time interaction and facilitating seamless communication between the students.

The students demonstrated active engagement throughout the Mystery Skype session. They eagerly asked insightful questions and attentively listened to the responses, utilising their critical thinking skills to narrow down on the possible location.

The session served as an excellent platform for students to apply their geographical knowledge and analytical thinking. By formulating relevant yes-or-no questions, they honed their understanding of geography, maps, and landmarks. The process of elimination allowed them to develop deductive reasoning skills and expand their spatial awareness.

The Mystery Skype session played a vital role in enhancing the students' communication skills. Through the limited yes-or-no format, they had to formulate precise and concise questions to elicit relevant information. This exercise improved their ability to convey their thoughts effectively, actively listen to responses, and engage in meaningful dialogue.

Despite not revealing the locations, the Mystery Skype session provided an avenue for cultural exchange. As students posed questions about traditions, customs, and regional characteristics, they gained insights into the partner school's culture. This cross-cultural exchange enabled a greater appreciation for diversity and expanded the students' global perspectives.

The session fostered teamwork and critical thinking as students collaborated in groups to analyse the information gathered from the partner school.

The Mystery Skype session with students in Lisbon opened doors for future collaborative initiatives and cultural exchanges. The success of this session has inspired us to explore additional opportunities to connect our students with peers from different countries, enabling them to develop global competencies and embrace diversity.
