Class 7 visits Amrit Udyan

Excursions play a crucial role in facilitating profound learning experiences that contribute to a child’s rapid development. These outings create impactful opportunities for sensorial learning, fostering individual growth and new camaraderie with peers. Such a experience unfolded for the students of class VII of The Indian School on 13 February 2024, as they visited ‘Amrit Udyan’ ( formerly known as the Mughal Gardens) at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. 97 students of class VII were accompanied by Vice Principal, Dr Anu Singh, Ms Vidusha Sharma, Ms Mridula Tewari and Ms Radhika Prabhaker. The excursion aimed to provide a holistic and enriching educational encounter.

Known as the soul of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Amrit Udyan is open to the public every spring and is a visual marvel situated in the heart of New Delhi. The gardens boast a vibrant display of meticulously manicured lawns, Mughal-style canals, and terraces, creating a breathtaking landscape. With over a hundred varieties of roses, along with marigolds, petunias, lilies and bougainvillea, the gardens offer a picturesque setting that captivates the senses. The excursion proved to be a rejuvenating and informative experience, allowing students to appreciate and admire the wonders of nature.

The excursion aimed to create awareness among students about the various categories of flora and fauna, aligning with the festival's significance and the renaming of the gardens. During the excursion, students were enthralled to witness the vibrant blooms in the gardens and explore the Herbal Garden, featuring numerous medicinal and aromatic plants established by the late President Dr Abdul Kalam. A tour of the Bonsai Garden followed, where students learned about various bonsai plants and the art of creating them. The visit also included the enchanting Spiritual Garden, where students witnessed musical fountains.

In the vicinity of Rashtrapati Bhavan, the students were captivated by the diverse varieties of roses in the Rose Garden. The sight of tulips presented a spectacular treat for both students and the accompanying staff. Overall, the excursion provided a comprehensive and enlightening learning experience, fostering an appreciation for India's rich botanical heritage among the participating students.
