Class 8 explores the journey of ISRO at Nehru Planetarium
A workshop titled “ISRO – From Bicycle to Chandrayaan-3″ held at Nehru Planetarium on November 29, 2023, provided an enriching experience for the students of class 8. The objective was to delve into the history of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), its achievements, upcoming missions, rocket technologies, and its strategic location. Ms P. Yogeshwari, our Physics teacher, guided us, students, through the event.
The highlights of the occasion was the Sky Theatre which offered an immersive show, presenting captivating information about the vastness of the universe, highlighting the various constellations visible in the night sky.
The narrative then shifted towards India’s role in space exploration. Students were enlightened about the earlier satellites launched by ISRO, such as Aryabhata, Rohini, and Insat-1A. The discussion covered diverse satellites designed for specific functions, including MetSat for meteorological purposes and GSAT-10, a communication satellite.
A detailed overview of ISRO’s impressive array of rockets was provided, including the Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV), Augmented Satellite Launch Vehicle (ASLV), Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV), and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV). The session highlighted the strategic choice of launching rockets near equatorial regions and sea coasts, with an explanation of the scientific principles underlying these choices.
The workshop concluded with a hands’-on Hydro-Rocketry experiment, adding an interactive element to the learning experience. Students actively participated in launching rockets using water as a fuel, demonstrating the principles of air pressure above water level. This practical experiment not only reinforced theoretical concepts but also added an element of joy to the overall learning process.
The workshop at Nehru Planetarium proved to be an informative and enjoyable experience for the students. The combination of visual presentations, historical insights, and practical experiments enhanced our understanding of ISRO’s journey, achievements, and the fascinating world of space exploration. It ignited a sense of curiosity and admiration for the advancements in India’s space program, leaving a lasting impact on the young space enthusiasts. The visit served as a reminder that, indeed, space exploration is a force of nature that continues to inspire and captivate the minds of the youth.
