The students of class 1C at The Indian School had a riveting Skype session with Ms Duyen To Nu Kieu, an educator in Vietnam, on 9 August 2021, at 9:00 IST. Ms Duyen, in her introduction, told the young audience that she hails from the Gia Lai province. She pointed out that since the schools are closed for the summer vacation, her students could not join them.

She narrated a Vietnamese folk tale based on the legend of the watermelon. This story tells how the delicious fruit came to Vietnam many centuries ago. The children were fascinated to know that watermelons are associated with the New Year in Vietnam - called the Tet festival. People eat roast watermelon seeds at the time of this festival.

Ms Duyen shared images and interesting facts about the Vietnamese national flag, national flower, national animal, etcetera. The Indianites were amazed to learn that the national flower of Vietnam is the same as India's - the lotus. She described the Vietnamese currency, its climatic conditions, dresses worn by the people, the different foods and etcetera.

The students enjoyed the intriguing narrative and responded with an enthusiastic presentation of their own. Young Vismaya, Aadya, and Agastya presented interesting facts about India like the national flag, her national game, etcetera.

The session ended with the excited children quizzing Ms Duyen, and she answered their questions with great zeal.

Time flew by as the engaging session brought together two different cultures.
