Classes 4 and 5 interact with an immunologist

On 20 August 2025, as a part of the Science Week celebrations, the students of classes 4 and 5 attended an engaging and enlightening session titled “From Cells to Shield: The Story of Your Immunity” conducted by Ms Himadri Devvanshi an immunologist. The session offered a captivating introduction to the wonders of the human immune system, presented in a lively, imaginative, and age-appropriate manner that sparked curiosity and excitement among the young learners.

Through the creative concept of a “Body Castle”, Ms Devvanshi vividly illustrated how our bodies are constantly defending themselves from invading germs. She explained that structures like our skin, nasal hair, and stomach acid act as the first line of defence. The students were captivated as germs were portrayed as sneaky villains called viruses and bacteria while the protectors of the immune system took on heroic roles: memory cells as wise librarians, white blood cells as vigilant police officers, antibodies as skilled archers, and T-cells as commanding generals leading the charge.

The session also emphasised the power of vaccines, likening them to training sessions that prepare our immune superheroes for future battles. With an engaging mix of a quick quiz, fascinating facts about sneezing, laughter, and nutritious foods, as well as an energetic “superhero pose” activity, the session transformed a complex scientific concept into an exciting, relatable, and unforgettable learning experience for young minds.
