Cooking in class, class 3

We believe introducing the art early has multi-disciplinary effect in young children. It exercises their skills of measure and proportion as they handle the ingredients, their motor abilities are put to work as they mix etc. Besides, science sneeks in as they observe how combinations of ingredients construct taste and health benefits, equally a mismatch can be detrimental. Social studies helps track the origins of the food and the geographies which enable their produce. We also hope the children get motivated to start eating healthier. We chose pasta as it's a favourite and therefore easiest to identify with, for the young children.

Culinary Specialist, Ms. Beena Wadhwana came in on 19 JUly, 2012 to show the children the art of assembling a Pasta Delight. The ingredients had been brought from home by the children and the exercise was one of careful assembly.

Ingredients used were pasta, corn, rajma, grated cheese, black olives, ketchup , oregano, salt and pepper.

Method:-The children carefully collected and placed all the ingredients in the advised proportions in a mixing bowl. They then set out to carefully tossed them to create their marvel! They were cautious to preserve the boiled pasta bits from crumbling as they were tossed. Each section took 35-40 minutes to complete the task as their class teachers supervised and offered assistance where required. The enthusiasm was abundant and the exhuberance filled the floor as did the flavours and their fragrance. The learning appeared complete!
