Delhi Book Fair 2016

40 students of class IX were taken on a visit to the Delhi Book Fair at the Pragati Maidan on 3rd September 2016. The fair is an annual event organised by the India Trade Promotion Organisation each year. This year, though the Book Fair showcased fewer books, prices seemed more affordable.

As we moved down the blue carpet laid out at the venue, we could view a sea of publishers, distributors, booksellers and other service providers who had put up their stalls. After dividing ourselves into conveniently-sized groups, we trudged off to explore each corner in the pavilion. The children, of course, had a field day as they managed to procure many of their favourite titles at unbelievable prices!

Meanwhile, I also explored some of our favourite publishers like Sahitya Akademi, Niyogi Books, Pustak Mahal, Pratham Books, Om Books, Ratna Sagar, Pearson, Kohli Books and many more. Niyogi books, though expensive, had an exclusive collection that couldnt be ignored. I managed to obtain quite a varied collection from these publishers for our School library. Several stationary stalls, which carried an interesting assortment, had also been put up. The supplies at these stalls were unusual and not available elsewhere. Needless to say, these stalls attracted many visitors, including us.

At the scheduled time, we all assembled at a designated spot. It was interesting to see everyone clutching their bags filled with new acquisitions, tightly! I am sure many couldnt wait to get back and delve into what was purchased!

Going to a book fair is a special experience and I think necessary, as it plays a vital role in regenerating an interest in reading amongst students.
