Disaster Management and Emergency Safety Training workshop for class 10
A Disaster Management and Emergency Safety Training session was conducted on 27 August 2026 in the School auditorium. Students of class X, along with members of the student council and teachers, attended the workshop which aimed to create awareness among the participants about appropriate responses in different emergency situations.
The session was led by Dr Tanushree Verma, Disaster Risk Management (DRM) expert; Mr Indraheet Singh, First Aid Trainer; Mr Raja Sharma, Fire Safety Trainer; and Mr Naresh Kumar, Search and Rescue Trainer. The session combined expert guidance with practical demonstrations and activities.
Dr Tanushree Verma highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness and planning in reducing the impact of emergencies. Students learnt about different types of disasters and the importance of remaining prepared and calm. They were also introduced to the RACE principle — Rescue, Alarm, Contain and Extinguish/Evacuate — as a basic response to fire emergencies.
Mr Raja Sharma conducted a fire safety session, demonstrating the appropriate use of a fire extinguisher by the PASS technique — Pull, Aim, Squeeze and Sweep. A fire mock drill enabled students to practise raising the alarm, evacuating safely, following instructions and moving in an organised manner.
Mr Indraheet Singh demonstrated essential first-aid skills, including bandaging and the basic steps of CPR. The students also learnt how to handle an injured person safely, particularly in cases of suspected fractures, including supporting the affected area and avoiding unnecessary movement.
Mr Naresh Kumar conducted a practical search-and-rescue session. Students learnt to assess their surroundings for safety before attempting a rescue and were shown appropriate techniques for assisting and moving an injured person while minimising the risk of further injury.
The training provided the students with practical knowledge of disaster preparedness, fire safety, first aid, CPR, fracture management and search and rescue. The demonstrations and mock drill reinforced the importance of staying calm, following safety procedures and working together during emergencies.
