DRDO experts engage with students during Science Week
On 22 August 2025, a special talk was organised in the School auditorium, for the students of classes VIII and IX, on the theme, “The Role of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Ensuring India’s National Security”. The speakers, Shri Bindhyachal Prasad Gupta and Shri K.N.V.S. Prakash, shared valuable insights into DRDO’s contributions, achievements and challenges.
The session began with a short video highlighting DRDO’s role in safeguarding the nation. Shri Gupta, an expert in Mechanical Design, provided a historical overview of DRDO, established in 1958, and elaborated on its achievements including the Agni and Prithvi missile series, Tejas aircraft, and naval systems such as Varunastra. He stressed the importance of self-reliance in defence technology and advised students to rely on authentic DRDO sources for accurate information.
Shri Prakash, a specialist in Civil Engineering and Rock Mechanics, spoke about modern security challenges such as cyber warfare and drone incursions. He emphasised the importance of collaboration between DRDO, private industries and academia to accelerate innovation. He also highlighted reforms aimed at overcoming challenges of delays and resource limitations.
Both the speakers highlighted that students are the future of the nation, with the power and passion to bring meaningful change through science and innovation. Their message resonated with the School theme, “I am the Change I Want to See”.
The students were encouraged to think creatively, explore innovative ideas, and consider how their contributions could help the country progress. The speakers also highlighted that DRDO values the ideas of young minds and would be glad to support projects that hold potential to make a difference. They expressed their joy at the thought that even a few students might feel inspired to pursue a career with DRDO and contribute to national growth.
The session provided an insightful overview of DRDO’s pivotal role in strengthening India’s national security. The speakers emphasised that continuous research, innovation and collaboration are vital for the country to stay prepared against evolving warfare challenges. The talk concluded with an interactive Q&A session and left the students inspired, proud and motivated to contribute towards the nation’s progress through science and technology.
