Dussehra Celebration, class 4.

Dussehra celebrates the triumph of good over evil. In order to mark the celebration, class IV took part in an inter-sectionEffigy making event on 11 October, 2013. There were three effigies, namely, those of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath from each section for evaluation. The main aim of this activity was to bring out creativity, cooperation, team work and management skills in the young students.

Students were encouraged to use recycled material. They were also encouraged to do their own planning which emanated in some unusual ideas! Used newspapers, bottles, were used and while some used a pot to balance an effigy, others used sticks and bamboo.

It was a delightful sight to see students engrossed in making their effigies stand upright using innovative ideas. It was also very reassuring to observe how responsible, helpful and caring they could be towards their team members. Later all the effigies were put on display and students from other classes and their teachers dropped by to see and admire the creations. The following effigies merit a mention.

Ravan made by IV A and IV E. Kumbhakaran made by IV A and IV C. Meghnath made by IV B and IV D.

The children are likely to recall this exciting exercise for a long time. A clever combination of craft and composition for one's culture and heritage.
