EARTH DAY 2014 activism at all levels of School

Earth day as we all know is observed across the globe, on April 22 every year. On this day each one of us is encouraged to learn more about our planet and it's natural resources so that we can each make our contribution, big or small to their preservation. Over the years, the significance of Earth Day has been defined and redefined as consciousness of the same has been constructed. Myriad aspects of our daily living needs to be managed so that the planet can be preserved. At our School, we did a good bit to sensitize our students and our extended community in the neighbourhood by carrying out multiple activities during school hours. Pre-primary The toddlers of the kindergarten hand-printed figures of trees on cloth and paper bags to articulate the harmful effects of plastic bags on our environment. Each child was also gifted a specially prepared potted sapling to take home and tend. Middle School - these children made a profusion of posters screaming messages of the mission. A nukkad- natak on conservation was enacted during the break, much to the excitement of the onlooking children who crowded around. Slogan-writing and choral recitation too filled their activity time on the occasion. Senior and Middle School together- a procession of children from classes VI- XII marched in protest on the side of the BRT corridor outside School. They carried life-sized handcrafted puppets plastered with messages and stood at intervals on the pavement. They were accompanied by their teachers and a band of 10 drummers from amongst themselves! They also carried large placards and banners announcing their intentions for the cause of conservation. The busy traffic took notice and several cars, two-wheelers and pedestrians slowed down to acknowledge the effort with a wave, a thumbs-up and even claps! Our protestors naturally delighted in the attention they had managed to assemble on this important occasion.
