Earth Day Celebrations, 21 April, 12.
In our endeavour to instil an ongoing concern for our Mother Earth, multifarious activities at several levels were organised on the occasion of Earth Day. The activities were made innovative so that the enthusiasm would only be in excess! As a curtain raiser on 20 April, class 12 accompanied by their teachers and police escort marched
as a group along the BRT Corridor. A couple of the students who play for the School band, lent a vigorous and continuous drum beat as the procession walked with life-sized banners to draw the attention of the busy office-goers. Some curiosity but the rest serious attention was what they got from the scores of people they passed on the busy road. Several instinctively turned off their ignitions as they waited for the signals to change. The group returned satisfied with the attention they had attracted to the serious anxiety, namely, pollution, that the BRT causes. A morning assembly for the occasion comprised a salutation to Mother Earth by a popular prayer Bhoomimangalam sung by the school choir. A group of students from classes 9 and 10 presented a dance rendition on the theme, Man as a threat to the environment. A special attraction of the
ssembly was a
Nukkad natak by the students of classes 10 and 11 on Water and Forest Conservation. Principal maam also addressed the assembly and explained how it is important that each of us observes Earth Day, every day of our lives so that we enable the earth itself to live longer. An activity carried out with the students of classes 6 and 7 was poster-making with catchy slogans on the topic, Vehicular pollution. Class 5 did face-painting in the classroom. Every face bore a message and the students went around School spreading the spirit. Classes 9 and 10 did tee-shirt painting and class 10 also did a special session of paper-recycling on the School machine.
