Educational excursion to the Zoo for Primary

On 31st August 2016, the children of class 2 were taken on an excursion to the National Zoological Park. Located in the midst of urban Delhi, this 176 acres contains an interesting selection of bird and animal species.

The children had already been given a preview to a zoo in their Hindi chapter Chidiya Ghar Ka Saer. Being a first visit for many, they were excited to experience moments that had been described to them in the chapter.

The zoo has several enclosures that houses chimpanzees, the hippopotamus, spider- monkeys, African wild buffaloes, giraffes and lions, etc. The children were curious to know more about the animals and there was a seemingly unending stream of questions from the inquiring bunch! The teachers patiently pointed out interesting features about each animal, thus helping them stretch their little 'banks of information on animals.

The visit gave our children the special opportunity to observe the animals' movements, nature and their habitat for themselves, something their books and pictures can't. Out-of-classroom exercises such as this thus reinforce concepts taught in the class and in a fun way too!
