Environment Week in Pre- primary.

Here comes July, and its our time to give back to our environment what we enjoy from it. Our School has always believed in making students, both, aware as also act in a responsible way, to contribute to the environment around them. We try and inculcate a sense of awareness amongst our students from early on. There was not a face spared of enthusiasm in the Pre- Primary department during Environment week, 8 to 12 July, 2013.

The week started with a leaf- printing activity conducted by the craft teacher . This activity made the children conscious of the intricate pattern on the surface of every leaf. Many of them tried to trace the lines on the leaf with great care. They were curious and wanted to explore how the lines varied on different leaves! Their prints were then strung up in the classroom.

On the second day, special sessions were held for the children where they were told about the importance and the need for keeping their surroundings clean. As a first step, they were oriented on how to keep their classrooms clean all the time. The harmful effects of littering were shared with them. We are all very excited to note that since, the children simply do not let any trash lie in any area of the class!

On the third day, the idea was to make the children aware of the beauty of environment outdoors. They were taken for a nature walk in the School garden. Pre- Primary Orion was also taken to the nearby Sadiq Nagar park. The students observed the variety of plants and flowers currently in bloom whilst their teachers related tales which wove facts and lore about trees and vegetation and the children listened intently. Several of them walked around in unusual quiet, perhaps the effect of the tranquil setting.

Simple experiments for seed germination and the water cycle were demonstrated as an introduction to science, hands-on.

Each child was asked to soak a few chickpeas in a glass of water lined with cotton at the bottom. They were then asked to observe the seeds as they germinate and sprout over a few days.

"NO PAPER DAY was observed across School on 10 July. In the PP section, the occasion was observed by focussing on learning by oral articulation, story- telling , puppetry, board work etc. Paper was actively avoided whilst enabling a novel day of alternate learning.

On 10 July, PP Gemini made a special presentation during assembly on the various species of plants.
