Envirothon 2016- Models for Climate Change
Climate change refers to the rise in average surface temperature on earth, primarily due to the excessive use of fossil fuels that release CO2 and cause global warming.
On 23rd November 2016, three students from School, Anisha, Sirjan and Sudhanshu (X) were chosen to compete at Envirothon - a model making competition with the theme, Climate Change, at Bal Bharti Public School. The competition included devising technologies and ideas to counter the effects of climate change.

Our School presented a carbon dioxide capturer and storage power plant. The model specialised in capturing carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuel industries. It then extracts these fossil fuels and uses them to produce electricity. This form of technology is known as New Geothermal Technology. The gas thus captured, is converted into liquid by a high pressure pump and is injected and stored 3km deep inside the earth at 1250C. The pressure created forces the gas to spread and generate heat. This gas at high pressure is then brought to the surface and used to rotate a turbine that can, in the process, generate electricity.
The model was to be prepared prior to the competition and therefore, students had ample time to work on it. They worked to replicate the idea they had thought about.
On Wednesday, 23rd November the students were invited to put up their exhibits. After registration, they quickly set up their model for the competition. There were 36 schools competing and each one had displayed a model of promise. Yet our team appeared unruffled, as it tackled the seemingly endless questions that were thrown at them! They, now, await the results which will be sent by mail.
The competition, though tough, was a fruitful one as our students had the opportunity to apply their minds to a useful project that might, in the long run, prove very useful.
