Excursion to Gandhi Smriti, class 4.

The students of class IV had a wonderful opportunity to visit Gandhi Smriti on Wednesday 6th September, 2017.

Gandhi Smriti at Old Birla House on Tees January Marg is a venerated place where Mahatma Gandhi's epic life ended on 30 January 1948.

163 students, with their class teachers boarded the buses at 9:15 a.m. from School and set off for the memorial.

The students had been briefed about Gandhijis life and his role in the freedom struggle before the trip, which prompted their curiosity and excitement to know more.

We were guided through the richly mounted corridors of the museum where a continuous pictorial display of the freedom struggle and our freedom fighters hung. The children saw, in awe, the vivid scenes from Gandhiji's life, including the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. We also walked past the stone imprints of Bapu's sacred last footsteps at the place of his martyrdom.

The children moved quietly viewing the photographs and paintings, their little eyes and minds trying to absorb it all.

The Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum on the upper floor, seemingly the first of its kind in India, presented Gandhiji's life as a new age digital archive, with over 40 exhibits in physical tactile media with laser beams, computers and sound effects to bring to life, as it were, Gandhi Bapu's life and his beliefs. The exhibits included musical bamboo poles and multi-hued kaleidoscopes carrying Gandhis messages and a xylophone playing Gandhiji's favourite hymns. The highly interactive museum aims to bring the Mahatma's and his values closer for the newer generations.
