Excursion to Teen Murti and the Nehru Planetarium for class 2

The Future belongs to science and those who make friends with science.

On Friday 8th December 2017, the children of class II went on an excursion to the Nehru Planetarium.

The Nehru Planetarium is situated in the green surroundings of Teen Murti House, the official residence of India's first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru and now a museum.

Pandit Nehru believed deeply in the significance of the knowledge of science for future citizens and aptly the Nehru Planetarium is situated closest to his memory, in the precincts of his home at Teen Murti.

The children were walked through the Teen Murti museum. They viewed Panditjis personal workspace, the ballroom and Ms. Indira Gandhis spaces. They looked in awe at photographs and memorabilia from his life and work. Photographs and information about several leaders from Indias struggle like Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Subhash Chandra Bose, Rajguru, Chandra Shekhar Azad etc also found a place in the museum. The teachers explained aspects of the great struggle and the immortal men and women who were involved, as the children walked the galleries.

The children then proceeded to the planetarium. One of the attractions of the place is the Soyuz T-dom 10 which carried Indias first cosmonaut Rakesh Sharma into space, along with his em suit and mission journal. The children were told that Rakesh Sharma was the first Indian to travel in space. The main gallery displayed the galaxies and their planets and the Antriksha Master Projector.

An outing such as this beautifully complemented the learning in the classroom. It was a delightful experience for the children as well as for the teacher to interface with science and history side by side. Ms. Rhytham Massey.
