Excursion to the Electoral Museum, class 9.

On 21st December 2016, the students of class 9 made a visit to The Electoral Museum situated in the premises of St. Stephens College. The experience turned out to be a great learning experience for the students.

The first feature which caught the attention was the old jail where Gandhiji was held prisoner. The outer walls of the museum seemed to have a captivating feel about them.

The Electoral Museum is a first-of-its-kind museum that chronicles the country's historical electoral journey with artefacts, documents, photographs and film exhibits, drawn from rare archives. The students explored the many sections of the museum and gained insights into the electoral process from half a century ago. They saw real ballot boxes, electronic voting machines, counting trays, old party symbols and handwritten letters by chief ministers, governor generals and even military personnel of the time. One of the letters on display was that written by Lord Montagu, listing facts relating to the coalition of parties and details of elections of the time. A guide at the museum gave us an in-depth information of the numerous exhibits. It is indeed an extremely enriching initiative of the government to build a museum that chronicles the history of the electoral system from its inception to present.
