Excursion to the National Museum of Natural History by Class V

Students of Class V accompanied by their teachers, visited the National Museum of Natural History on 30th July, 2014.

The museum is devoted to environmental education and depicts the country's rich natural heritage and history. It has three exhibit galleries, namely, "Introduction of Natural History", "Nature's Network: Ecology" and "Conservation". The children were walked through and seemed filled were wonder as they observed the exhibits depicting the origin and evolution of life, plants and animals in their natural habitat, harmful and beneficial insects, camouflage, adaptation of terrestrial, aquatic and aerial life in animals, endangered animals etc. They also got an invaluable overview of the major ecosystems of the world, the role of plants as primary producers, food chains, the interrelationships between plants, animals and human beings, the present day environmental problems such as pollution, deforestation, depletion of wildlife etc. The list was exhaustive.

[gallery] The gallery on Conservation, fascinated the children the most as an oversized model of the human hand ruthlessly uprooting a tree reminded them about the Chipko Movement, about which they had studied in their EVS lesson. These sections not only provided useful information to the students but also served as valuable resources in supplementing classroom teaching. By Ms. Minoo Sethi.
